Massaging your scalp for 5 minutes a day can make your hair thicker,stronger, and grow faster. You can do it dry, or use your favorite oil or scalp treatment. Shampoo time is also a great time for a scalp massage.
Massage stimulates your scalp's and increases circulation. The blood brings nutrients to the follicles and that helps the follicles do their work. Another benefit of scalp massage. Is that massages are a great stress reducer. The less you stress, the more beautiful your hair will become. Use the pads of your fingers, never your nails. Spread your fingers apart and place them firmly on your head. Start at the base of your neck and work your way up to your front hairline. Move gently in a circular motion. You should feel tingling; bringing increased blood flow and circulation. The biggest benefit to massage is increased blood circulation at the surface of the skin.

If you use nourishing oil during scalp massage, this will condition the scalp, reducing the occurrence of dandruff and dry skin that can interfere with the hair growth process. Oils also condition the hair shaft and root that lessen the chances of brittleness, hair strand breakage, and split ends.

How to Perform Scalp Massage

Begin massaging your scalp at the hairline above your forehead and work your way back to the base of your skull. Use medium pressure while moving your fingers in a tight circular motion in order to promote relaxation and thoroughly condition the scalp and hair. When you have reached your neck, begin the process again for the sides of your head by massaging from above the temple to the back of your head.
Once you have massaged your entire scalp with circular motions you can begin the process again, only this time use a little more pressure and more vigorous movements. This step in the massage will increase circulation for better blood flow and help remove dry or dead skin cells that can inhibit hair growth. When you have massaged the whole head, leave the oil on your hair for at least 30 minutes to get the best conditioning benefits. Then wash and style your hair as usual.

Oils for Scalp Massage

The particular hair ailment that you are trying to treat will determine which massage oil you need for your scalp massage. If you have brittle hair that is prone to breakage and split-ends you can use almond, sesame, or lavender oil to nourish the hair shaft and skin. Lavender is also a great choice for thinning hair since its properties help stimulate the hair growth process and balance oil production.

Individuals with thinning hair can also benefit from rosemary or coconut oil. Coconut oil helps slow down the hair shedding process and rosemary stimulates hair follicles to produce new hair growth while inhibiting the natural shedding process.

What does it mean to pre-poo?

Pre-poo is a term used for pre-shampoo. It is a treatment used before shampooing to lessen the harsh effects of shampoo. A pre-shampoo treatment, which is applied to the hair and/or scalp, left on for a period of time and then shampooed out.

Should you pre-poo? What are the benefits?

Pre-poos help protect our hair from the harsh shampooing process. Most buildup we are trying to remove lies on our scalp, not our hair, especially if you are not using a lot of product. Our hair really only needs the conditioning aspect of the wash cycle. Using an oil or a conditioner can help provide a barrier between the hair and the harsh detergents in the shampoo.

In addition, pre-poos help condition the hair. It seems counter intuitive. Why would we put a product on our hair that we were eventually just going to wash out? Actually, conditioners and oil often work better when applied to dry hair. Think of a sponge. If you place a dry sponge on a spill, it will absorb more than if you place a wet sponge on that same spill. Our hair reacts the same way, absorbing conditioner a lot more effectively when the hair shaft is not swollen with water molecules.

How To Pre-Poo :

You can pre-poo overnight or 30 minutes to 1 hour or more before shampooing or co-washing

1.Apply your pre-poo of choice from roots to tips making sure you cover all hair strands, on damp (use a spray bottle with water to dampen hair) or dry hair.

2.Put on a plastic cap or wrap head in saran wrap.

3,You sit under a dryer or just let you
pre-poo stay on your hair for as long as you feel.

4.Rinse and style as usual

What Can Be Used To Pre-poo :
There are many of ways to pre-poo. You can apply oils (warmed or not) to your scalp and/or hair, cover with a scarf and sleep with the product on their hair. When you wash it out and condition,you will notice a difference in the softness or moisture level, or strength in their hair.

Note - I would not recommend sleeping with conditioner on the hair. Conditioner, especially moisture based products, tend to leave the hair strand too soft. This will make the hair limp and, as a result, very fragile. Similarly, protein based conditioners can leave the hair too hard and rigid, which will lead to breakage.

You can apply oils and conditioners to dry hair and cover with a wet towel. Then, they cover the wet towel with a plastic cap, steaming the conditioner into the hair.

You can apply product, cover with a plastic cap and sit under the dryer for 20 minutes or more. Heat really helps the hair absorb the product.

After pre-pooing, hair should feel moisturized, stronger and healthier. Give it a try!

Lavender oil - It is a popular oil for hair growth. It has been proved that application of lavender oil on regular basis has a significant effect on the growth of hair.

**Treat acne, eczema, psoriasis, sunburn and rosacea. The essential fatty acids in flaxseed oil are largely responsible for its skin-healing powers. Red, itchy patches of eczema, psoriasis and rosacea often respond to the EFA's anti-inflammatory actions and overall skin-soothing properties. Sunburned skin may heal faster when treated with the oil as well. In cases of acne, the EFAs encourage thinning of the oily sebum that clogs pores.

Jojoba oil - This hair oil can be used if your hair type is dry. Jajoba oil will help to moisturize your dry hair when applied on regular basis. It can also be used before shampooing your hair to get a tangle free soft hair.

Olive oil - Olive oil when applied on regular basis helps to strengthen your hair and improve the hair quality. This is because it helps to reduce the stress and also provide elasticity to your hair.

Castor oil - Commonly used for hair growth. However this oil is very sticky so it can also be used in combination with other hair oils like coconut oil or almond oil for best results.

Coconut oil - Coconut oil is commonly used for dry and damaged hair as it provides appropriate lubricant. The different nutrients in coconut oil like calcium, iron, potassium and magnesium provide good nourishment for the hair.

Rosemary herbal oil - This oil is commonly used for flaky unwanted dandruff on the scalp.
Almond oil - Almond oil helps to repair and strengthen your hair.
There are some oils you can prepare at home by combining 2 different oils or other ingredients. One of the good recipes of hair oil for lustrous hair is - mix few camphor balls in 200 ml of coconut oil, add a handful of hibiscus leaves and boil this oil for 20-30 minutes.
